ToneFest 2004

This was our 4th ToneFest and the biggest success yet. For most participants, we had the largest collection of great vintage amps they had seen in person. Additionally, we were treated to a wonderful assortment of custom builds by Trainwreck, Komet, DST Engineering, DC Plexi, Peters, Point Blank, Wallace Amplification, Moxon, Germino, Vans Evers, and more. Below are a few pictures of the event.

Hiwatts were well represented with special thanks to Patrick Robinson.

We also had some terrific mid watt category amps…

(L-R) DST Engineering UL-34, Peters JP-50, Mad Professor, DC Plexi 45/50, '67 JTM50, '67 JMP50, Tranewreck clone, 60s Basketweaves 412s, '61 Bassman.

Glen Kuykendall compares his Trainwreck Express to the Planewreck clone. Nick's near pristene '68 412 w/ G12H30s and 014 Bass cones had a twin show up in the form of Glen's identical '68 shown here. Glen's spkrs date from Aug 27th and Nick's from Aug 20th, '68. Cool.

David Vanell dials in his Peters JP-50 while Barry Weber does the demo w/ his Frankenstrat. Barry (above) and Glen Kuygendall (below) both did a great job handling the amp demos, with Barry using his Strat and playing the sweetest melodic slide and Glen strolling masterfully through the broadest catalogue of songs w/ his '59 Burst. It was easy to understand why he's a studio player in Nashville.

Glen's '59 Burst (not reissue)

Tommy Hatcher's '69 & '73 20 watters w/ Basketweaves. These were 2 of the best sounding rigs there.

It was wonderful for many of us who have enjoyed each others friendship on the forums, to get together face to face.

Scott Pearson (FL) & Russel Taylor (ME)

Rick Benegbi, Scott Pearson & Patrick Robinson (all from FL)

(Scott & Nick's JMI AC30s L-R)

'63 TB-in-panel, '60 Fawn AC30/4, '61 Fawn TB added, '63 nonTB Head

The BB cab, Funky Pink and HiFi cabs are Moxon's homebrews.

The mini BB behind the AC30/4 is a DST Engineering 18w MarWatt

Here are some of the coolest amps at TF…

These are vintage tube clock radios modified by Mad Mike Vans Evers into guitar amps. They sound fabulous, especially plugged into your favorite cab. Mike should market these as the amps your wife will love.

This is the coolest device. Built by DST Engineering, the Amp Cradle adapts to any size chassis (shown here w/ a '66 JTM45).
